The cortex shows equivocal gyral atrophy; the collapsed ventricle may reflect fixation of the hemibrain unsuspended and artificial narrowing of the ventricle. Sections of cerebral cortex from multiple lobes show a relatively well-maintained complement of neurons without concomitant astrocytic and microglial proliferation or parenchymal perivascular inflammatory cells. The overlying leptomeninges are unremarkable. There is no evidence of neoplasm. The appearance of underlying digitate and deeper white matter is unremarkable. The corpus callosum shows no abnormalities. The microvasculature in the gray and white matter is unremarkable.
