3B1-6 The hippocampal section shows well preserved neurons of the hippocampal Ammon’s horn. The region of the lateral geniculate nucleus (arrow, 3B1) is severely depleted of neurons and shows prominent gliosis at various magnifications in sequential sections. The white matter surrounding the lateral geniculate, anterior lateral ventricle, and amygdala appears pale and gliotic. (H&E)
