Case 5 History ---- The patient was a 70 year old man with a history of COPD, chronic hypertension and myocardial infarction who collapsed and died. Autopsy findings showed massive pontine hemorrhage, fibrinoid arteriolar necrosis with microinfarction (consistent with hypertensive encephalopathy) involving the brainstem and remote hemorrhage involving the left cerebellar hemisphere.
