Washington University Experience | MUSCLE | Autophagic myopathy | 11H1 (Case 11) ATPase 9.4 10X
Myofibrillar Adenosine Triphosphatase (ATPase, pH9.4) differentiates between Type I (slow-twitch, pale stained) and Type II (fast-twitch, dark stained) muscle fibers based on the pH-dependent stability of the myosin heavy chains. ATPase pH 9.4 in this image shows fiber type grouping. There are also findings compatible with concurrent ongoing and chronic partial denervation with reinnervation, including the small NADH dark angular and polygonal fibers, grouped atrophy and fiber type grouping.
