11T1A,B Some collections of autophagic vacuoles exhibit scattered large curvilinear bodies adjacent to a few abnormal mitochondria, seen at higher magnification in image #11T1B. Curvilinear bodies seen on electron microscopy in hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) or chloroquine myopathy are complex, abnormal accumulations of un-degraded membrane phospholipids, debris, misfolded proteins and glycogen and may be accompanied by autophagic vacuoles and multi-lamellate “myelin figures”.
