H&E stained sections show skeletal muscle with endomysial chronic inflammation, numerous atrophic fibers, foci of endomysial fibrosis, extensive degeneration/ regeneration, extensive irregular clear vacuoles, increase in the number of internalized nuclei, and occasional fibers undergoing myophagocytosis. These findings are indicative of an active inflammatory myopathy. (H&E)
