H&E stained sections show skeletal muscle with granular intramysial content. Other areas (see later) consist of mixed lymphohistiocytic/chronic inflammation adjacent to perimysial vessels and in the interstitium between myofibers, along with several foci suggestive of myofiber necrosis and invasion by macrophages.
