1C8B (Case 1) EM 012 - Copy
The perinuclear material in these fibers is rich in atypical mitochondria admixed with glycogen. (electron micrographs) ---- Interpretation: Centronuclear myopathy in this case is a conclusion based on the large number of muscle fibers with one central internal nucleus. The additional features, not shown, of central dark staining internal architecture with a peripheral region of lighter staining on multiple tinctorial stains and the type 1 hypotrophy are changes commonly seen in centronuclear myopathies associated with MTM1 mutations.
