1I3 Tubuloreticular Inclusions (TRI): Endothelial tubuloreticular inclusions are not specific to any single disease, rather they represent an ultrastructural marker of high systemic alpha- and beta-interferon activity. They are frequently associated with dermatomyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), other collagen vascular diseases (e.g., dermatomyositis, scleroderma, and Sjögren's syndrome) but also HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and C, and CMV. They may be found in iatrogenic settings in which interferon therapy is exogenously delivered. TRIs may develop in the setting of kidney transplantation and viral illness. ---- 1I3,4 Looking for tubuloreticular inclusions is often hard work with many capillary endothelia which are normal (1I3) or represent normal endothelial structures such as this centriole/basal body (arrow, 1I4)).
