2C1-3 A VVG stain highlights larger vessels with surrounding cellularity, normal intramuscular nerves and muscle fibers with darker staining centers adjacent and internal to the layers of atrophied fibers at the edge of fascicles. Increased reactive microvasculature is prominent in the perifascicular region. (VVG)
