Case 2 History ---- The patient was a 78-year-old woman with sensory ataxia and 20 pound weight loss. Examination showed asymmetric distal > proximal weakness with severe sensory loss in the legs. She had a past medical history of breast cancer treated with chemotherapy including Taxotere and carboplatin with resulting numbness below the knees that never recovered. She is in a clinical trial of XB010 which may have contributed to her polyneuropathy. Also contributing is diabetes with high hemoglobin A1c up to 11% during her course. ---- 2A1A,B Plastic sections show one markedly involved muscle fiber as well as surrounding fibers with focal target formation which appear as pale foci.
