19A2D (Case 19) Muscle_029 - Copy
There were a few subsarcolemmal collections of thin, dense mitochondria which mimicked the serpiginous forms of 191A-C. ---- There are no distinctive morphologic abnormalities on Gomori trichrome, Sudan or PAS stains. SDH shows scattered fibers with increased staining. COX shows fibers with reduced but not absent staining. ---- Interpretation: (NM Division) Chronic myopathic changes include the abnormal variation in fiber size, fibers with internal nuclei, increased endomysial connective tissue and replacement of perimysium by fat. This is a myopathy with no active cellular or humoral immune features. These findings remain compatible with, but not specific to, centronuclear myopathies.
