Case 1 History ---- The patient is a five month old boy with a clinical history of "rule out mitochondrial disease". Operative procedure: Muscle biopsy left quadriceps. ---- 1A1,2 Microscopic examination of the muscle biopsy material shows striated muscle fibers with fiber size variation. Scattered fibers are >50% smaller than the majority; however, no clear grouping or perifascicular atrophy is identified. There is no evidence of inflammation or vasculitis. Degenerating/regenerating fibers are not seen.
