29A3H (Case 29) EM031 - Copy
The mitochondria are suspended in a diffuse collection of fluid and glycogen. Some mitochondria have lucent vacuoles. (electron micrographs) ---- Not shown: COX shows many fibers with reduced or absent staining. SDH stains many scattered fibers dark. We made a diagnosis of mitochondrial myopathy. The pattern of mitochondrial pathology in muscle fibers with relatively few other myopathic features suggests a primary disorder of mitochondrial DNA rather than an autosomal disorder. We have no further information collected concerning this patient.
