Washington University Experience | MUSCLE | Myopathies with Mitochondrial Pathology | 31A3C (Case 31) EM024 - Copy
A lipopigment granule is prominent within a sea of mitochondria. (electron micrograph) ---- Comment: The muscle fiber mitochondria are abnormal in number, size, shape and internal structure. The NP/NM diagnosis rendered was mitochondrial myopathy with SDH positive and cytochrome oxidase negative muscle fibers. The pathology is somewhat more likely to be related to mitochondrial DNA disorders than autosomal dominant mitochondrial disorders. Evaluation of mitochondrial DNA in blood and possibly muscle may further define the mitochondrial myopathy with ophthalmoparesis. There is to date no additional information.
