Washington University Experience | MUSCLE | Myopathies with Mitochondrial Pathology | 36B1A (Case 36) Deltoid_008 - Copy
36B1-4 Deltoid muscle: The pathologic changes in this muscle were similar to the paraspinous but significantly less frequent. There were smaller collections of subsarcolemmal mitochondria, lesser changes in shapes, fewer coarse cristae and lesser amounts of lipid droplets. A few rare distorted sarcomeres separated by granular material were demonstrated. There is no storage material on PAS or Sudan. Phosphorylase is present. SDH shows a few mildly dark fibers. Cytochrome oxidase shows rare negative fibers. COX & SDH show many fibers with irregular internal architecture.
