Muscle, left paraspinal H&E shows abnormal variation in muscle fiber size, ranging from small round basophilic fibers with larger internal nuclei to hypertrophied forms. SDH shows fibers with increased staining (at least one per fascicle on average). Cytochrome oxidase shows a comparable number of fibers with reduced or near absent staining.
