Many mitochondria have peculiar shapes and focal vacuolation. (electron micrographs) ---- Not shown: With NADH, occasional fibers have increased staining and others have slightly irregular patterns of internal architecture. Sudan staining showed a number of these fibers have increased lipid with increased sized droplets. Comment : This was called mitochondrial myopathy consistent with a clinical diagnosis of Mitochondrial Neurogastrointestinal Encephalomyopathy (MNGIE).
