6B3A-C. In many, but not all fibers, there are collections of unusual, enlarged mitochondria, most impressively within the sarcoplasm, that form clumps separating the sarcomeres. These mitochondria are enlarged, mostly round and somewhat pale, but do not contain inclusions or deposits of membrane. There are occasional lipid droplets adjacent to the mitochondria.
