7A5 Mitochondriopathy (Case 7) EM 012 - Copy
Higher magnification image of mitochondria and fat. (electron micrograph) ---- Not shown: There are no distinctive morphologic abnormalities on Gomori trichrome. COX and SDH are normal. There is no storage material on PAS or Sudan. ---- Interpretation: By ultrastructure alone, this would fit in the classification of mitochondriopathy. ---- Mitochondrial oxidative enzyme activities (neuromuscular division results) showed Complex Ill activity is selectively reduced (Ubiquinone-ferricytochrome C oxidoreductase is 0.4 micromoles /min/gm vs. normal mean of 5.2). Other mitochondrial oxidative enzyme activity levels are normal.
