1E1A-C In this area of ATPase pH9.4 stained muscle most of the targets are pale and preferentially involve type 1 (pale) as opposed to type 2 (brown/black) fibers. Alkaline environments selectively inhibit slow-twitch (Type 1) myosin ATPase, leaving fast-twitch (Type 2) enzymes highly active. (ATPase, pH9.4)
