These Bielschowsky stained sections show the same region stained for axons. Notice that the axons adjacent to the vessel wall, best seen at higher magnification in 1B16, are delicate and appear intact which establishes this as a demyelinative process (i.e., preferential loss of myelin in comparison to axons) (Bielschowsky silver stain)
