Macrophages contain PAS+ granules, degradation products of engulfed myelin. Astrocytes have pale pink glassy cytoplasm (arrows). Note that red cells in the vasculature (arrowhead) stain blue as does normal intact myelin and serves as an internal control (LFB-PAS)
