Washington University Experience | MYELIN (IMMUNE-MEDIATED) | Inflammatory Demyelination | 1A0 Case 1 History
Case 1 History ---- The patient was a 17 year old woman who presented in 2008 with dysconjugate gaze, dysarthria, and gait instability and was found to have a right temporal lesion. A right temporal lobe brain biopsy performed at this time showed inflammatory demyelination thought consistent clinically with ADEM and she received IVIG, steroids, and plasmapheresis. She required intubation and was hospitalized for several months. With recurrence of symptoms with time and development of MRI progression in other brain regions, a presumptive diagnosis of MS was made and she was maintained on Betaseron.
