Case 10 History ---- The decedent was a 66-year-old woman with multiple sclerosis diagnosed at age 34 after an episode of optic neuritis the previous year. She was treated with Avonex for some time. Her muscular strength worsened over the following years and she lost the use of her legs ten years prior to her death. Subsequently, she had gradual loss of motor function in her upper extremities as well as cognitive problems. Her clinical course included multiple treatments with steroid medications. An MRI of the brain and spinal cord performed in 2009 showed findings consistent with demyelinating disease. At the time of her expiration in 2017 the patient was living at home.
