Case 2 History ---- The patient was a 32 year old woman with a 6 year history of multiple sclerosis which was diagnosed with supportive evidence from multiple MRIs showing fluctuating lesions in the periventricular white matter as well as the corpus callosum. In addition there were oligoclonal bands present within the CSF. She was screened for NMO-IgG antibody but was negative. She also had a panoply of other illnesses including morbid obesity, obstructive sleep apnea, rheumatoid arthritis, depression, seizures (refractory to medical therapy), bipolar disorder, and chronic left leg ulcers. A few days before her death, the patient developed a high fever. She was transported to the emergency room from a long term care facility after having a witnessed seizure before becoming unresponsive. Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel found the patient in cardiac asystole, with absent pulses and absent breath sounds. She underwent endotracheal intubation and advanced cardiac life support was initiated during transport but she did not survive.
