Washington University Experience | MYELIN (IMMUNE-MEDIATED) | MS - Cerebral Hemispheres | 1B3 RRMS Plaque (Case 1) Bielschowsky 4X
An adjacent section to 1B2 appears, at this magnification, to have lost large numbers of axons within the plaque compared to adjacent normally myelinated white matter. Some axon stains, such as the Bielschowsky stain used in this image, stain more than axons and the increased background amplifies the apparent axon loss. We now typically use NF IHC.
