2F1-4 This image represents the area shown in 2D1 stained for axons with a Bielschowsky silver stain. There is significant staining artifact (apparently it is a difficult stain to master); nonetheless, higher magnification of the active demyelinating region shows significant axon loss but long stretches of preserved axons within the areas lacking myelin sheaths.
