1A0 Case 1 History
Case 1 History ---- This 56 year old male patient developed optic neuritis and, soon thereafter, loss of spinal cord function including both posterior column and corticospinal tract functions. During the long course of his illness he was hospitalized with numerous neurologic relapses and was left with a functional spastic paraparesis. He was transferred from a nursing home for fever, trouble clearing secretions and possible pneumonia. Despite antibiotic therapy, he had a gradual deterioration during hospitalization and was found without vital signs.
