Washington University Experience | MYELIN (IMMUNE-MEDIATED) | MS - Secondary Progressive (SPMS), fulminant | 1G1 MS, Secondary Progressive, fulminant (Case 1) CC2 JCV ISH whole mount
1G1-4 The clinical history and gross pathology suggests the possible fulminant superimposition of PML on the long term underlying demyelinative process. Therefore, both in-situ hybridization (ISH, 1G1,2) for JC virus and immunohistochemistry for SV40 viral proteins (they cross react with JC Virus) were performed and found negative. 1G1,2 JC Virus ISH in the most destructive region is completely free of viral genome. In addition, we found no evidence of plum colored enlarged oligodendroglial nuclei or significantly atypical astrocytes in H&E stained sections of the same region.
