A collage of the right occipital lobe cortex and subcortical white matter (vicinity of arrow in #1B4) stained for H&E, LFB-PAS (myelin stain), neurofilament (NF, axons) and GFAP (astrocytes and their processes). In this case there is partial loss of myelin with relative axonal sparing as well as loss of GFAP containing astrocytes corresponding to the area of myelin pallor.
