Higher magnifications show a rather abrupt transition between astrocytes and the demyelinated region. The arrow in 1D6 marks the transition between maintained astrocytic vascular endfeet and their absence in the demyelinated region. The following image (1D7, arrow) illustrates the marked swellings that represent dystrophic astrocytic perivascular endfeet. The other swollen astrocytic cell bodies and processes are scattered throughout the margin with the demyelinative segment (GFAP IHC)
