1L12,13 These pontine vessels are surrounded by GFAP immunoreactive swellings with two appearances. Those marked with an arrow (#1L12) resemble the other astrocytic swellings previously characterized. The foamy GFAP immunoreactive swellings (arrowheads, #1L12), seen at higher magnification in #1L13 may represent macrophages containing the debris of degenerated astrocytes.
