7A0 Case 7 History
Case 7 History ---- The patient is a 74 year old woman with COPD, impending respiratory failure, congestive heart failure with cardiomegaly, a poorly characterized neurodegenerative disease and type I diabetes. ---- Her neuropathologic autopsy showed a brain weight of 1250 grams with minimal neuropathologic findings, specifically no cerebral hemispheric white matter lesions and no involvement of the basal ganglia, thalamus and cerebellum. However, microscopic examination of the brainstem (midbrain through medulla) showed large numbers of Rosenthal fibers involving subpial and subependymal spaces as well as parenchyma but often with relative sparing of neurons.
