Washington University Experience | MYELIN (NON-IMMUNE MEDIATED) | Canavan Dz | 1A1 Canavan Dz (Case 1) 1
The ventral aspect of this 500 gram (normal for age = 1315 grams) atrophic brain belies its appearance on cut section. The superficial leptomeninges have a gelatinous appearance; however, no infectious process was identified. The temporal pole appears to have pachygyria gyri but no descriptions of microscopic malformations appeared in the report. The gross appearance of the optic nerves shows apparent myelin preservation.
