1C1-3 This pontine whole mount section is stained routinely for H&E (1C1), myelin (1C2, LFB-PAS) and axons (1C3, Bielschowsky). The myelin loss parallels the distribution of H&E pallor. Axons are also maintained, which is seen particularly well in the most central aspects. The arrowhead in 1C1 marks the area to be shown at higher magnification in the subsequent images.
