5A1,2 These sections of the pontine brainstem at first glance appear to represent infarction. However, pontine infarcts are typically not symmetrical in the midline, more reflecting lateral distribution of paramedian vessels. In this case the edges of the lesion were found to be demyelinative with relative axonal preservation.
