High magnification shows vascular lumens with clear droplets whose fat content has been removed during the processing leading to paraffin embedding. Note the eosinophilic neuron (arrow). (H&E) ---- Comment: The origin of a major shower of emboli is unclear and may involve necrosis of bone and marrow spaces as part of a sickling crisis. However, no blood forming immature marrow elements were seen admixed with the fat.
