12B4-6 Classical fat emboli can be found in the cortex but usually do not result in infarction which is seen in this image. This may reflect the 3 fold increase in the density of anastomosing intracortical microvasculature in the gray matter in comparison to relatively hypovascular subcortical white matter. (H&E)
