1B1-3 A whole mount of the occipital cortex and white matter stained routinely with H&E (1B1), for myelin (1B2, LFB-PAS) and axons (1B3, Bielschowsky silver stain). A series of near sequential images shows a rim of cortex surrounding by demyelinated white matter. The apparent island is cortex protruding from another level. The area marked in 1B1 (arrow) is shown in the series of 4X images in 1B4-6.
