This lesion, which lacks calcifications, is deceptively subtle at lower magnifications. Large numbers of round and elliptical axonal swellings, vacuolar edema and loss of oligodendroglia are seen in the lesion in the center of the image. Lesions are not centered on venules which may be seen in vasculitis or demyelination. (H&E)
