This coronal section of the cerebral hemispheres demonstrates a large area of near complete myelin loss with relative preservation of overlying cerebral cortex. The more ventral aspects including white matter in the vicinity of the basal ganglia, thalamus and temporal lobes show relative preservation in comparison.
