Case 1 History ---- This 93 year old woman served as a normal control participant in a dementia study. Her medical history included hypertension, angina, and two small strokes about 30 years before her death. On 3/1 she was admitted to the hospital in respiratory distress thought to be due to a very large hiatal hernia. A laparoscopic reduction of the hiatal hernia and a splenectomy were performed; however, she became septic and died on 3/16 at age 93 of respiratory failure. ---- 1A1 A whole mount of the pituitary and stalk with adjacent GCT.
