Washington University Experience | NEOPLASM (SELLAR) | TTF-1-positive sellar tumor - Granular cell Tumor | 5E3 Case 5 Denouement
5E3 Case 5 Denouement ---- Immunostains performed at an outside institution were also available for our review and showed tumor cells to be negative for c-kit and smooth muscle actin ruling out potential possibilities of gastrointestinal stromal and smooth muscle tumors, respectively. The overall morphological findings are consistent with a multifocal benign nerve sheath neoplasm with an immunoprofile favoring a diagnosis of granular cell tumor. These tumors can have overlapping morphological and immunohistochemical features with other nerve sheath neoplasms owing to their common origin from the nerve sheath. Nonetheless, at a cellular level, GCT are quite rich in lysosomes unlike other nerve sheath tumors which is supported by widespread GCT CD68 immunohistochemistry.
