Washington University Experience | NEOPLASM (SELLAR) | Pituitary Adenoma - Pituitary Neuroendocrine Neoplasm | Corticotroph | 10B2 PNeoplasm basophil inv (Case10) SYN 1
10B2 Special stains for synaptophysin shows labeling of the population of cells, somewhat more strongly than the native cells of the adenohypophysis. ---- Not shown: The pituitary appears enlarged. There is a homogeneous collection of cuboidal cells occupying the outer capsule external to the gland. These cells have little cytoplasm but are not arranged in acini. Mitoses are not identified in this population. Ki67 immunohistochemistry shows occasional immunoreactive cells, some of which may not represent the cellular population under question. It is most likely that this process represents a small adenoma.
