Washington University Experience | NEOPLASM (SELLAR) | TTF-1-positive sellar tumor - Spindle cell oncocytoma (SCO) | 2A1 Spindle cell Oncocytoma (Case 2) H&E 4
Case 2 History ---- The patient is a 71 year old woman with a recurrent neoplasm, resected at UVA. The original pituitary tumor was resected at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH). The histologic appearance of the tumor did not vary significantly over the resections and is shown together. ---- 2A1,2 Sections reveal a spindle cell neoplasm arranged in intersecting fascicles (H&E). The nuclear features are bland and mitotic figures are infrequent. The cytoplasm is eosinophilic and has a granular or oncocytic quality. Occasional epithelioid cells are seen as well. A lymphoplasmacytic inflammatory infiltrate is seen at the periphery of the tumor. There are no eosinophilic granular bodies or Rosenthal fibers. The original specimen resected at BJH 11 years previously was reviewed and demonstrated identical morphologic features.
