The meninges at the base of the brain surrounding the optic chiasm and 3rd nerves is thickened, opaque and focally rusty colored. The meninges are also somewhat thickened around the brain stern and in the cerebellar pontine angles. The leptomeninges are missing in the midline of the posterior cerebellum, the surgical site. There is a ragged surgical defect in the midline inferior posterior cerebellum surrounded by hemosiderin staining. The ventral aspect of the patient’s brain shows a collapsed surface due to draining of ventricular CSF at the time of autopsy.
