12B2-5 The tumor cells have a high nuclear to cytoplasmic ratios and are closely packed, with hyperchromatic nuclei that often exhibit molding and, occasionally, cell-wrapping. Some cells have small to moderate sized nuclei with homogeneous chromatin. Other cells have larger nuclei and, often, one or more prominent nucleoli. Mitotic figures and apoptotic bodies are common; focally, the latter coalesce into small 'lakes.' Other focal areas show mixed bland necrosis and apoptosis. Vessels show robust endothelial hyperplasia. In some areas, tumor cells show more ample, occasionally eccentrically arranged eosinophilic cytoplasm. (H&E)
