2B1 Astrocytoma, pilomyxoid (Case 2) c
2B1-3 Sections from the initial resected mass show a primary infiltrative neoplasm composed of highly monomorphous, small spindled piloid cells in a loose fibrillar and markedly myxoid background. In addition, the tumor cells are arranged around vessels, perpendicular to the vascular axis in an angiocentric pattern. There is no evidence of Rosenthal fibers or eosinophilic granular bodies. Mitoses are infrequently seen, and the tumor infiltrates into the surrounding parenchyma.
