Sections from the initial resected mass show a primary infiltrative neoplasm composed of highly monomorphous, small spindled piloid cells in a loose fibrillar and markedly myxoid background. There is no evidence of Rosenthal fibers or eosinophilic granular bodies. Mitoses are infrequently seen, and the tumor infiltrates into the surrounding parenchyma.
